Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We've got answers. Here are some of the most common things our customers ask us.
What kind of wood should I buy?
Pine and hardwood mix are best for outdoor burning. Pine can not be used in smokeless firepit or chimney. Bargain bags are good for firepits and smoking meat. They do not stack. Kiln dried Hardwood and Kiln Dried Oak are best for indoor heat. All cooking woods are ok to burn indoors.
How much is in a 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, or 1 cord?
1/4 cords is 32 cubic feet. This is usually store on a 5 foot long x 4 foot high rack.
1/3 cord is 48 cubic feet. This is usually stored in an 8 foot long x 4 foot high rack.
1/2 cord is 64 cubic feet. This is usually stored in a 10 foot long x 4 foot high rack.
1 cord is 128 cubic feet. It is usually stored in multiple racks.
What's the Difference Between Green, Air dried, Kiln Dried?
Green wood is freshly cut with a lot of water left in the wood. It will need 6+ months to dry out for best burn. Air dried wood is "seasoned" wood with moisture content of 25% or less. Kiln dried wood has been put in an oven for approx. 24 hours to evaporate the moisture. It is also bug free with moisture content of 10-15% for optimum burning.
What's in a Bargain Bag?
Bargain Bags are off shoots of wood that don't meet the normal specs of 16 inch long and 3-4 inch wide. Bargain bags are not stackable but are dry. The wood is all shapes, sizes, rounds, knots, end pieces, and odd shaped. It is great wood to burn but not the prettiest.
